Why this Blog

I have visited a number of websites and blogs that purport to be about teaching oneself the piano.  A google search tends to highlight people selling systems designed to help teach people the piano.  Some say they will teach you to play by ear, some say they will teach you to quickly learn to harmonize and accompany other musicians.  I have no problem with any of that.  But I never found one where a person is who doesn't know how to play the piano learns to do so.  In fact, one such site the instructor says, "Do this:" and he does something and I don't see how someone who has never played the piano can just do that.  Without practicing, that is.  Anyway, I chose to go the traditional route where you learn a little at a time.  This blog is a record of the progress I make, if any.  In the meantime, as I come across interesting results for searches for "Teaching Myself Piano" etc., I'll put them here.  Also, if anyone has actually learned to play the piano to any extent using those systems, I'd like to hear about it.
